    Default V6 coolant leak

    Hi guys
Wondering if anyone has any ideas to my coolant leak. I have a leak that looks to be coming from around the aircon pump area.

Today I'm going to check if it only leak when air con is on or not. It's quite noticeable drip when looking underneath the car.
Just wondering anyone new any coolant pipes etc around that area.

    Car is v6 cdti

    Is it definitely coolant?
    ie orange coloured
Are you having to check the coolant level / topup?
Has the coolant warning light come on?

The air conditioning condensor outlet is to the rear of the engine and can often lead to pools of water (when the air con is on)

The easy way to test this is to dip your finger and taste
    Coolant is bitter
Air con water has no taste (fresh water)

I run my air con all year round and don't normally get any until the end of a trip when the system drops all the water
However on warm days it can be seen dropping water continuously

Don't taste too much of it though as if it is coolant then it is poisonous!

Thought that coolant was sweet though?

I don't think he was suggesting drinking a gallon of it

Yes coolant level has dropped about 10 mil in 2 days so 100 mile ish. No light on as the level is above the cold line still. A topped it over expecting it drop.

A checked with a container a got small splashes of pink fluid ( coolant coloured) but other day in car park when I got big puddle is just seemed like water :-/

Is there any coolant pipes around that area or above it that might need nipping up?

As per the advice, dip fingertip into the liquid
This is quite safe and there are no issues if you accidently swallow this small amount
It is more of an issue if you swallow a cup full or more!

    Taste varies by coolant
Sweet or bitter, the taste is quite unique

There are no coolant system pipes in that area, but it could be coolant running off a pipe and then under the engine
However, this should be caught by the under engine tray, possibly deflecting it in this direction giving a false inidication of where the issue exists

As this is a small amount I would monitor it over the next few days and weeks
The usual cause at this time of year is the vast variation in temperature between night and day, typically resulting in a small leak as the seal shrinks faster as the engine cools, suggesting the seal has failed

As previous, when the air conditioning is operating the dropping of water is normal

I have the under tray off so I'll just leave it off and see how it goes I've checked all coolant pipes a can see with no luck. Will try and get it up on stands an run it with air con and with out and see if this helps.

I hate how tight space is around this ****** engine lol

Are you using your air con in the car when its leaking??? If you are its just the air con system and is perfectly normal.

If its at the back off the engine towards the bulkhead area specifically. If you look under the car there is a rubber tube which is where its probably coming from.

Yeah I only noticed when sat in car park waiting for the girlfriend. But it's after this I noticed my coolant had gone down. But there's no leak there today and havnt had air con so maybe linked. I've driven about 40 mile today so will check coolant later an see what level it's at
