    Default 150CDTI Growling noise and vibration when accelerating round left hand bend

    Hi,

    My 2007 Vectra has started to make a growling noise and has a vibration when accelerating around a left hand bend (like coming out of a round about). It's loudest when going up hill, round a left hand bend and when the engine is under load. Turning the steering wheel into and out of the bend will turn the noise on and off. I took the car to the dealer and they checked the wheels and drive chain but could not find anything wrong. I think the noise is synchronised to the engine revs and not the road wheels. It started about 3 weeks ago and hasn't got worse.

    Could it be an engine mount problem?Any ideas what could be causing this?

    Thanks in advance for any clues...

    PS. I've owned the car from new and it has done 60K miles and has had 3 x DMF fitted since 49K. 1st one had leak on fluid, 2nd one failed after 5K with leak on seal and therefore pedal went to floor.

    Hi, Have you tried looking at the small tin heat shield that lies between the lower front suspension ball joint and the disc - sometimes they get bent and make contact with the disc making a right racket and aggravated when turning into corners - easy fix just bend it slightly away from the disc so that it clears the disc when the disc is revolving. My daughter had it on her Zafira - local Vx dealers couldn't find it so she bought it to Dad ..........

    Thanks for the suggestion... I checked the heat shield and it looks to have a big enough gap. If I push it then it moves slightly but does not hit the disk.

    I'm sure that the frequency of the sound is in harmony with the engine because if I engage the clutch and steer left and right then the growl is a very low frequency like the tick over of the engine. So to me it's like something from the engine is touching the bodywork due to centrifugal force when turning left...

    I finally got my car back from the dealer. It turns out as (I suspected) that a bolt on the gearbox engine mounts had broken. I'm not sure if the dealer had under/over tighten the bolts last time they replaced the DMF and that's why it had broken??

    Anyway they haven't billed me for the work (or loan car), so I should be happy I guess.

    At least my car is back to normal and ready for my summer holiday!
