    Default In-Car Video Camera

To be used for recording the idiots I encounter on the roads on a daily basis...

I want to mount (permanently) a small video camera next to my rear view mirror.... it looks like a small tube of smarties...

    Is this a good idea?

Are people likely to target my car when parked in streets or car parks if they see a small 'helmet type' camera mounted in my windscreen?

I really value your opinions on this before I decide what to do...

My advice would be to install a semi-permanent device

The usual solution is a recording device in the glovebox or boot
The alternative is a device which sits in a cradle, and is removed or stored in the boot

Remember, in the Vectra C most insurance companies do not cover items stored in the glovebox unless it has a lock on it

I have had a roadhawk in the car for some months now, I fitted it permanently and tbh I forget it's there. Probably better out now (search DOD-Gs600 hd). Nice piece of mind though. I will get a GS600 and put the RH in the rear window. I have privacy glass so this combined with the fact it's mounted right next to the centre mirror it's very discreet.

I have mine up there, you cant see it from outside the car unless you bend down, so if your just walking past you would never see it.

Roadhawk fitted to mine the same was as Rushy has since the new year - all of a sudden no-one does anything interesting on the road in front of me, but on the plus side no accidents yet...

Looks like the suction bracket supplied, but sucker removed and remainder screwed through to roof liner.

I use the same dvr unit - one front, one rear - but kept with the suction mounts.

Yep, I didn't want it to be seen from the outside so I took the suction cup off, drilled a hole through the lining (its reinforced in that part) and used the same screw for the cup with a small spacer to hold it up there. Its mounted higher because there's no suction cup, so just peeks under the tint. You can just see the 5v power supply as well all routed up the A pillar. Thing is the camera has only gone and stopped working now, its like the battery isn't working properly, so when you turn off the ignition key it just shuts down and doesn't save.

There is a reset hole on the upper surface beside the speaker - take your SD card out and then use something like a bent paperclip to gently press the reset button through that hole.
If that does not work on the unit alone, plug it in to power, switch it on and then perform the reset.
