    Default Fifth Gear

Noted that apart from being a garbage programme, they also have a token "baby" presenter. As I write, they are now ruining a mercedes across england on chip fat and encouraging people to fiddle customs (OK it's not totally rubbish, then). Presumably the chips were used to fatten up the aforesaid presenter, but not VBH.

modern diesels, like the CDTi's need lubricants to help keep the pump healthy. i dont see why bio diesel cant be modified to include them? What the pollution rating of biodiesel?

    awesome...mmmm chips!!

I've just read up a little more on this. An Austrian research lab ran biodiesel 100% in common rail engines and after 100 hours of testing saw nothing wear more than if mineral diesel had been used, apart from the fuel pressure in the rail needed upping to get the same performance (tuning box anyone?). Apparently older engines with rubber seals are prone to to leaks. The only real issue for biodiesel is cold starts, but again an additive can be put in to drop the operable temp down to -22oC.

According to the site, british manufacturers, such as Ford, will only warranty a 5% biodesiel 95%normal mix, but that is due to there being no British Standard covering biodesiel. A common mix is 20% bio, but to me that seems lots of hassle unless its premixed and comes straight from the pump like that.

Oh that new presenter on fifth gear still sucks!

Loads of other stuff there as well - just go to the main site home page. If you are really bored the google biodiesel and try and sort out all the cowboys from the real stuff. We like the cowboys - they keep our labs ticking over nicely..... yeeeee hah!!

There is no British Standard because we follow European Standards, both for B100 and ordinary diesel. Any pump fuel MUST reach EN590, no matter how much Maccie D's waste there is in it. A bit tricky getting those burgers through the filters, though.
