    Default Timing chain on a corsa

    My girlfriends 51 plate corsa sounds like sewing machine and i think it maybe the timing chain as its a metal rattle noise from the engine..how much would she be looking at getting this changed? could it be done on the drive? the cars done 122k

    If its a 1 litre three cylinder, through it away.

    1.2 upwards ok. You have free floating cams and sencer, so you cant do it without the correct tools. The engine mounting, water pump, chain cover and more all have to come off.
    This is a very common problem with corsers.

    Hello alan how much does a garage normaly charge for this? is it fine to drive?

    Have a pop over to corsa-c.co.uk , they are well known for issues with the timing chain, its normaly just the tensioner but its a pity to pay all that labour and not replace the chain.

    Not really a diy job its £80 ish for the locking tools, £100 for the chain kit which you also need to add sump gasket, wather pump gasket and oil .. may as well change he oil filter while your dropping the sump.

    Local indys normaly £240 ish all in you may want to get the water pump changed while its all apart.
