national tyres oil change

ive put my reg in the national tyres web site for an oil change it comes in at £37.80 i didnt think that was to bad its probably not much more expensive than doing it yourself, castrol oil,does anyone know any national companies that are cheaper?

When using national chains that employ under-trained and unsupervised "staff" for an oil change, the brand of oil or how many pence cheaper it is than doing it yourself isn't the issue. There are far more important things to worry about, such as whether they will over-fill or under-fill with oil; whether they will over-tighten (and break) the oil filter cap, or under-tighten it and it falls off; whether they will over-tighten the sump plug so that next year it will round off when someone tries to undo it; whether they will only take out half the old oil before putting the new oil in....

Have a read of this guy's experience at a national chain, and ask yourself "Did he feel better, or worse, from getting someone else to change his oil?"

All these places are franchises and so the standards at each will be different.

The National Tyres in Shrewsbury I have found over many years to be fine - always a good job.

can't be any worse than going to a dealer cause it's the trainee that gets to do the oil and filter change and in most cases unsupervised

I use the National Tyres outlet, next to their Head Office, in Glasgow
I've never had anything go wrong

Complaints there are very low
Equally, they will bend over silly on prices and will often phone around to compare their price
It is also well used by taxis, which you don't often see at other outlets

i must admit last time i used national i was a bit worried , there where a few of them round the car and no one seemed to be concentrating , they dropped the oil and then seemed to be messing about in places of my engine were they did'nt need to be looking at , they were umming and arrring about have we got the right filter and i never did see a glimpse of a new filter then they appeared with jugs of oil and started filling it up out of some big storage tank probably , what if they used the wrong stuff ?, and when i checked it next day it seemed a little bit over filled , so although national are cheap i think i will be doing it myself next time , filter is £4.95 and i can get the proper vauxhall oil of ebay for £26 delivered , so in fact its a bit cheaper just have to get on me back and do a bit

I've tried them all... had an MOT done at a Vx dealership and they dented the front wing and didn't own up... been to Formula1 the day after buying an Omega to get the brake fluid renewed because the pedal was spongey, matey put it on the ramp, I stood and watched from 5 metres away as he held up the fluid nozzle to each bleed nipple in turn (from under the car, without removing the wheels), and they charged me £30 for the honour. The pedal still felt spongey though, so a week later I took it to another garage for yet another brake fluid change and they told me the fluid they bled out was black it was so old, so F1 matey just pretended to change it.
