Default Dealer has wiped my engine ECU

After the issue I was having regarding an intermittent rough idle I took my car to the local stealer to have a field remedy applied, as it should only have taken them a hour to do it I decided to wait.
After 2 hours and several sheepish looks from the service desk I asked if things were going ok only to be told that they had applied the FR but it had wiped the engine ECU.
I had been told by one of the members on here, Tramman, that this could happen so I wasn't overly suprised but they were, leads me to think that they don't do this too much.
Any way, they now have to sort the ECU out, at their expense as I have already stated I am only going to pay the £54 for the update.
Using teh wifes Daewoo Kalos until I get mine back, I hate the Kalos, 1.4 16v and no go!!!!

Thats not so good. It would have been rather cheeky of them to even think of charging you for there mistake.

Heres hoping you get it back quickly.

    Silly dealership!
The Field Remedy comes with instructions on what to do with the CD
They have to delete what is already stored on the EMS and the CD then replaces this
However, if the process is not completed it could look like they deleted the EMS, and the instructions even state this, and what they should do next...

Just had an update from the dealers, they haven't managed to sort it yet and the service manager has been on the phone to an ECU specialist trying to sort this out. I don't really need it until Wednesday morning as I am working from home on Tuesday but they have already stated that if it isn't fixed by then they will get me in a car. I may see about an extended test drive of an Insignia.
Just out of interest how hard is it to recover the ECU from this?

Dead easy, the update is on the CD, and the instructions are on TIS
Any dealership worth 1p would know what to do...
Usual issue is the printer has run out of ink, so can't print the instructions

Easy, give me a call mate. I have contact who has just recovered a Astra ECU for a mate after exactly the same thing was done by a dealer. With Tech 2 to complete an ECU update you need to remove the radio from the canbus system as it just sends it mad and after the ECU has crashed I'm afraid Tech 2 won't help.

what normally happens with this when a ecu goes awol the battery may have gone flat during the program or the laptop beeing used battery went flat ...normally the ecus can be got back ....but some times the ecu fail is due to a faulty ecu and may well be scrap .....kets hope they can get it back ....

I'm guessing Tech 2 / MDI fails at 6.6% when it is just starting to write the second sector. Basically the engine software can be wrote directly onto the ecu via a BDM flasher as Tech2 will no longer do it, and as said if the car battery was below voltage or if the radio was left in the system will crash.
