    Unhappy I Lost My Tess

Had a major shock over the last few days, our Great Dane Tess was 9 years old which is a pretty good age for a "giant" breed.
Took her out for her evening walk, she ate her food, had a play in the garden etc. normal routine, said goodnight and went to bed. The wife went downstairs Monday morning and Tess had died in her sleep. To say i'm distraught is an understatement, although I've always been lived with dogs , she was the first one that was actually mine, she followed me everywhere like a shadow.
As the wife is older than myself ba 17 years we I decided rather than having a baby and risking complications, we chose to have a puppy instead, of course this also means the missus is also very upset as Tess was also the security for the house. The wife always felt safe (wouldn't you with a 15 stone dog protecting you??)
We managed to dig down 5 foot in the garden and have now buried her where she is near us rather than send her to the vet and get cremated with a load of other animals. We are now searching for a suitable stane and engraver to mark her grave.
The house seems so quiet now, no tip tapping of feet, no bashing of tail against the furniture , no really loud snoring.
Those who know me would say to look at me I'm no softy, but where Tess was concerened I was as soft as ****.

it's hard when pets become part of the family. I think a lot of people who don't have pets don't appreciate how much you get attached to them.
