bad news Nokia,.. can't fault my CDTI but just luck of the draw. Not heard many bad things about a VXR other than cost of the coil packs,.. but Spoons etc will give a full brief i'm sure

No they are much better. That's why there are not many threads about problems with the 2.8t lump as they are all basically the same.

Hopefully an owner will be along with some better details but hopefully that's put your mind at ease a little.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

Hiya, In the year i've owned my 2.8T I have had no engine worries at all. If you do the usual checks then they are a really good and reliable engine. The major things that appear to play up are MAF and coil packs as previously stated. All though obviously they are heavier on the fuel than a diesel I personally think they work out cheaper in the long run, when you look at all the problems the CDTI's seem to be riddle'd with.

In most instances the 2.8 Turbo is very reliable. I've had no problems with mine at all in 3 years and 35,000 'super enjoyable' miles.

I've had 'glitches' or gremlins. Weird ones like... one day my parking sensors didnt work.. but just for one day. one day my oil level light came on, but the level was fine... then the level light went away.... one day my cruise control stopped working... then started working again.

So its very occasional weird stuff.

Very few owners have had trouble with engine stuttering or juddering. This has been down to either a MAF sensor or Coil Packs needing replacement. These seem to be rare occassions though, but when it happens its annoying. Coil Packs can be bought for around £55 each. This has never happened to me though..

Power steering groans when the fluid levels are running slightly low. Top it up and its fine.

Get the engine remapped to Stage One. Its the best £350-£500 you can spend on this car. Loads more torque and a bit more BHP. Great fun but only fill it with 98-99 RON fuel on Stage One.

Make sure the recalls have been done

    - Header Tank
    - Windscreen Wiper Motor
    - Handbrake Recall

Oil Changes are dirt cheap, I can get the oil and oil filter for under £40 through trade club, so there is no excuse for not doing regular oil changes on this engine.

Dont get one converted to LPG as its caused major reliability problems with other owners. Also, if you see a VXR you like, it would be well advised putting a description on here and VXRonline.co.uk in the Vectra VXR section to see if we have any history on it... before you buy it

Errrmm... thats it really. Sweet as a nut
