Default Dell XPS i3 Laptop - Enough for gaming?

    Hi all,

I am about to buy a Dell Laptop, and have settled for the XPS 15.

My main use is for watching TV shows (350mb Avi files) and some HD videos, internet browsing and gaming.

Im sure it'll be fine for the videos and internet as my 5 year old HP can handle this, its just i now want to use iit for games too.

The spec in the "ships fast" deal at the moment is as follows, and my quesston is, could i play popular games such as call of duty black ops, and other graphically demanding shooters smoothly without having to knock the graphics down? Dont really want to spend much more than £600 so this laptop is definitely the best buy for the money. Its an extra £130 for the I5 processor and i can increase the ram to 4gb for £40. Any advice appreciated as the offer expires today!!!

Should be fine, I'd spend a few quid and upgrade the RAM, but beside that, should do you for a while.

I've been looking to upgrade my Dell XPS M1530, It's still good enough to run Call of Duty MW2, but as I've had it for around 4 years now I thought it was time to upgrade, Thinking of ordering on of these

From the dell website there are a lot of complaints with the i7 because the fan always runs to cool it so always noisy. Just FYI massive spec though. Didn't buy it in the end as I need to research more will get one on the next deal though ! Do you think the graphics card will be like that on the pc or is it substandard being jn a laptop

1Gb graphics on a laptop is about the best you can expect for the money at the mo,depending on how much u want to spend of course. For my gaming pc's, i tend to just modify cheap ones, upgraded power supplies, motherboards, RAM and graphics cards.

Its ok for some light gaming, heres a benchmark to show you how the graphics card performs:

    http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-...M.35837.0.html

scroll near the bottom and it'll give you some reviews and what fps to expect when gaming, keep in mind they are using a quad core not a dual.

Cheers mate, finding it hard to make heads from tails on that page but seems that it'll be up to the job.

Just put my order in, thought it was worth going for the extra 1gb or ram so the spec i got was:

    i3 2.53ghz
    4gb DDR 3 Ram
    500GB 7200rpm HDD
    1GB Nvidia Graphics
    720p screen

Nice touch is that it has JBL speakers which have really good ratings.

Not bad for less than £600!
