Watched it whilst at the gym. Quite alarming, but TBH the guy did not make things easy for himself.

Typical owner though; buys car, drives car, sees warning light and calls breakdown

The point they seemed to miss was the car should have had a second and third year warranty
All I heard was the car was covered by a one year manufacturers warranty and then the one years Network Q warranty

Equally, the handbook does state typical oil consumption is 1 litre of oil per 1000 miles

Sounds more like the owner had not checked the oil level prior to making the journey
However, equally why did the dealership start stripping the engine down and missed the compression test
    Even I know that one

Just had time to watch this, see with the secondary Vicar's case, the dreaded DMF made an appearance. At least both tales had happy endings, and Vx do listen, if you can fight your way through the numpty's. I knew about the 1ltr per 1,000 miles from threads on here. Diffficult to prove you've been checking the oil in between services, how many take dated photos checking fluids weekly? I do my fluids and tyres every Tuesday and before any long journeys, but I couldn't prove it.

As they say, there are 3 sides to every story, and the bloke with the Astra's story sounded decidedly sketchy tbh.

Why didn't the oil warning light come on before the engine packed up if the oil was so low - - also if he had left the oil filler cap off there would have been oil sprayed all over the engine, engine compartment and dripping all over the road!

astra with a z16xer is fitted with a oil presh light (same as most cars) it is also fitted with a sump level sensor also has a coolant over temp light so i would say it was driven with no oil to damage it it would have got very hot and the engine man light would have come on wonder if he saw this light and just carried on .......also the ecu is timed when the light came on vx dealers can see how far the car has been driven with the light on .....
