Mirrors fell off - another Common Fault

Obviously another common fault with the Vectra - after fixing the handbrake system (it released itself on my drive and rolled into the garage door, smashing it to pieces), the rear suspension arms, both front springs, the battery and alternator, the thermostat, front suspension droplinks, arb bushes and numerous other common Vectra faults - the f****** passenger mirror falls out and smashes, replace that, only to find that the drivers side is also hanging on by a thread. What next?

as youve got a diesel itll probably be swirl bar, dual mass flywheel, EGR valve, split air pipes, the list seems to go on & on unfortunately.

petrols on the other hand dont seem to suffer to the same degree, from what ive been reading on here.

im curious, did you fix the handbrake yourself, or did you get the dealers to do it with the handbrake recall?

ermmmm does this apply to the signums? as i dont trust my handbrake

Yes one of the rear calipers was not working properly_ they were aftermarket ones so I replaced them with GM ones and not had a problem since. It wasn't the usual handbrake lever problem that was subject of the modification, although this has been done.

Exactly same happened to me aswell, 2 weeks ago passenger mirror fell off, although i put this down to it having a crack in it for the last 4 years until on thursday while driving i noticed drivers mirror vibrating like mad, just a tiny bit left holding it onto backing at top so popped it off, cleaned glass and backing up with a bit of nail varnish remover and applied copious amounts of superglue.
Was yours the same as mine where all of the sticky stuff is still firmly attached to the actual mirror mounting plastic but has all come away from the glass!!

btw, you should never rely solely on the handbrake to stop your tin box from running away. Its states in the highway code and all the Vauxhall handbooks to also leave the car in gear when parked up.

Thanks for that Dave - I'll have to read up on my Highway Code - although my 1965 copy doesn't mention anything about putting it in gear! Good job Vauxhall sent me that little sticker to remind me!

I thought it was common sense/practice to leave any motor in gear whilst parked up... maybe it was just how i was taught

On hills you should also turn your front wheels into the kerb as well (if facing downhill) or away from the kerb (if facing uphill)
