Default Standard air filter or K&N Panel Filter

    Hi All,
My car needs sevicing and i am wondering whether to get a standard air filter fitted or buy a K&N panel filter?
The panel filter i am on about simply fits into same air box so its not an induction i am on about. Do you think i will see any performance increase from the K&N?
    My car is a 1.9CDTI SRI 150

    Cheers,

have you done the airbox mod?

You won't see any more than a couple of bhp gains with a K&N panel but it does allow the motor to breath better.

ive done this (air box mod & K&N) and together they have smoothed out the typical flat spot we all seem to get, although not sure the diesels get the same flat spot as the petrol models. ive also fitted the shorter SRi intake that replaces the longer pipe which goes across the top of the radiator. i'd recommend all of the above, whether petrol or diesel, but remember to disconnect the battery for 30 minutes while youre doing the mods, then the ECU can re-learn once you reconnect the battery & go for a drive.

    Thanks for the replies.

What is the air box mod and how do i do it as i have not heard of this? does this apply to the 150 CDTI?

Any recommendations on where to buy the K&N for the best price?

What vectra did you get the shorter intake pipe from?

    Thanks,

I've gone with the standard air filter, and i've seen a massive difference, for £9 you can't go wrong as long as you have the airbox mod, you can always K&N it if you feel the change isn't enough, but it certainly was for me.

To be honest, i have no experience with the diesel Vectra, but i'm sure someone else will correct me if i'm wrong.

The airbox mod is the removal of the trumpet part in the lower part of the airbox, underneath the actual air filter.

I got my K&N filter from another member on here for approx £40, but if you have a trawl on ebay im sure you can find one for a similar price & youll never have to replace it while you own the car, it only needs cleaning approx every 50,000 miles!

The shorter intake i got was for an SRi/GSi model & was a direct replacement for the longer one. Cost me approx £9 brand new from the dealers. Again, not sure if this mod would be suitable for a diesel, but plenty of diesel owners on here who can advise you.

All the above mods were done on a 2004 1.8 petrol model.

I have always cleaned/ re oiled mine at least once a year regardless of the mileage covered & the diesel does respond well to a K&N panel

DH.DTI, Did you also do the air box mod on your diesel vectra?

So if i take off the trumpet part, doesnt that mean that dirt will get straight in under the air filter?

I'm on my second vec C (both diesel), taking the lower trumpet out of the airbox has been the first thing i have done on both of them usually within the first hour of purchase lol...
& tbh there's no need to disconnect the battery
