    Default Air con quick question.

Noticed that since the warmer weather my air con seems to have no effect on making the air any colder when turned on. I can hear the engine note change when i turn it on, but not getting any colder.

Put it on diagnostics today & when i put the air con switch on, the field marked "AC information switch" (Air conditioning) becomes active. But the field marked "AC Relay (Air conditioning) remains inactive. As shown in pic....

    Any ideas anyone?

Good guess it's the old favourite .... low gas pressure (propapbly a leak) causes low pressure switch to kick in, thus isolating the AC to protect it from further damage.

    You can :

Get it looked at by a professional.

Get a look at the most common culprit - the condenser - and more than likely replace before having the system regassed.

Take it Kwik-Fit and have them bung it on their machine for a very basic check and regas.

Personally, I'd be changing the condenser if it's the original - especially after the cold winter - all that road salt sprayed onto it - great for corrosion and then off to my local Kwik-Fit for a regas.

(Remember all Kwik-Fits are franchises so the standards of workmanship will be different at each).

As above. The compressor doesn't seem to be kicking in so would guess low on gas either due to a leak or because it hasn't been run for a while.

OpCom is just identifying that the switch is on but the compressor isn't.

Little use = seals dry out and the refrigerant leaks out.

AC needs to be regularly used, even in winter. Also makes for a great demister, and can also be used in conjunction with the heater - which is how the more expensive climate control systems work.

Thank you for the replies gentlemen. I had a look at the condenser & it looked to be in good nick. The son works in the trade & can get it regassed FOC, so i will try that first.

Only had the car since october last year & being mindfull of the seals, i made a point of running the aircon throughout the winter.

But will try regass first & see what happens.

Well, it lasted a year. Under pressure & not coming in again.

No sign of condenser leakage though. Will try another regass.

Nice one! Updating after a year
I wouldn't think it would need re-gassing every year, but if your son can get it done FOC then why not?

Why does the Vectra need to be run in winter to lube the seals and other cars don't?! ...

All three of my Vec C cars have this problem and my partners (my old one) has had AC issues since 2010 which the dealer still hasn't resolved. I've got VX involved now as the dealer seemed to be not interested in sorting it out (identified when under warranty)

    Such as?

It's good practice to run the AC regularly on any car, building installation, or portable AC unit, etc.
