Default front shock came into engine bay

Hi guys, been getting a knocking noise for a few days now but couldnt find anything untill last night it got far worse.
I have just popped the bonnet to find my shocker is coming about 2 inch into the engine bay actually hitting the underside of the bonnet, Does this sound like just a replacement shocker needed or is it something worse than this??

Sounds like the something in the top mount bearing has failed.

Sounds like you have seized shock and its eventually punched its way through.

I wish i had the money to do that, but having booked my summer holiday 4 days ago my budget is somewhat streched,
DO i need to replace both side shockers at the same time, also i suspect the shocker is ok and its actually the top mount thats failed, could i just replace that? if so is this pritty sraight forward job?

thanks for the info so far fellas
