    Trim : SE - Orange Rock 's !!

    Engine : 1.7CDTi

    Year : 2014

Default 2.0Dti went Bang then into Limp Mode

Hi Guys, well me and No.1 Wife spend 2 days over the weekend in York, and very nice it was too.

On the way back we were commenting how many ancient scooters there were being fixed in layby's.

However we were joining the A64 there was a bang from under the car somewhere under the front seats.
The car (Vectra 2004 2.0Dti) went into limp mode with spanner light on.

After stopping and checking under the bonnet and seeing nothing unusual we continued on our way, but slowly.

The Spanner light was off, the Engine Management Light was on and power was down and we were leaving a light, but visible white smoke screen when I tried putting my foot down.

When we got home to Wirral I allowed the car to cool down and then drove it on the M53. It was still down on power and The Spanner light came on quickly, then would go off when i slowed down and then the EML came on.

Code obtained with Spanner Light on:
P0400 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Insufficient Detected
    (5A) - Not present

Code obtained with EML light on:
P0100 - Mass or Volume Air Flow Sensor Circuit Range/Performance
    (66) - Not present

Latest things I have gone to the car is change the 3mm Vacuum pipes in the engine bay and added 250ml of 2 stroke oil to 2/3 of a tank of Diesel, but these were last week, plus the car made it to York with no problems.

Now I know the first thing to do is get the car up on a ramp and check the exhaust system before removing the EGR, especially as I dont have a Gasket to re-fit the EGR if it's OK.

I did phone VauxcareWirral to see if they had an answerphone message about opening hours over Easter but their Answerphone message says they will be closed until the 20th of December!!!

It looks like I will be at the doors of Kwik-fit first thing in the morning unless anyone local knows anywhere else open Easter monday.
    Any help welcome,
    Thanks,
    Tony

I would check for splits in the turbo boost hoses first as thats pretty common and could account for the P0100 code as it would mess with the air flow into the engine after the maf.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

Thanks for the reply Big Sig.
I was surprised to see the P0100 error.
The tubro boost pipes were replaced last year, but I have also run my hands over the pipes and had a look around the engine bay.
Unfortuneately I dont even have wheel ramps to look underneath.
And the garage is full of furniture.
Still looks like a trip to Kwik-fit tomorrow.
    Cheers

Also you don't need to get a gasket for the egr, it uses an o ring

And try not to go to Kik fit they'll tell you you need new brakes and shocks

Thanks John, kwik-fit seem to be the only choice, apart from a new Halfords service centre near here too.
Are Halfords worse than Kwik-fit?? I Might have to find out tomorrow.
And i dont have a spare O Ring either, but I might still have a look inside the EGR tomorrow.

Hi tony i'm with jr2 on this one,i never change the o ring on mine,it's an easy removal and clean on the Dti,if you remove the plastic cover you can turn out the actuator hook and clean the valve shaft.check inside the inlet manifold whilst you have the egr out you may find it's as bad as the egr,if so remove manifold and clean
as for kwick-fit i wouldn't let them change a bulb

Clean yor boost sensor as well.

The vacuum pipes are supposed to be 2mm not 3mm but I don't think this would have contributed to your problem.

Now been to kwik-fit Bromborough and they cant find anything wrong with the exhaust.
So went to Halfords and bought a Female Torx socket set.
Now just waiting for engine to cool a bit and start work on EGR and Boost Sensor.

    Innes, thanks for input.
The last time I was in Plymouth I nearly burnt the clutch out trying to do a hill start up Philmore St.
I had to give up and back down the hill and scrape the rear bumper on the bottom road. Then the drivers side windscreen wiper fell apart.
After that experience I decided to drive round and park facing down the hill.
    Like everybody else did.
    Live and learn.
