Thread: vectra and torxs bolts why??

    Default vectra and torxs bolts why??

    what the hecks up with the torx bolts, had serious serious problems doing my front pads today never have i seen bolts so tight, busted my good half inch rachet, busted my nose open with a spanner, and also rounded my sump plug, what heppend to good old standard bolt hex heads??.

    also rounded a wheel stud

    Bad times dude. Had same problem when replaced my rear discs/pads, I think next time I will pay the £40 labour to have them fitted lol............I made sure I brought new bolts from vx they were about £1 each.

    haha yea they arent worth the hassle, thought i was going to get 2 black eyes when i hit myself dunno how i managed to, completly slipped and spanner busted into my nose lol, all over pads ha. sump plug just turned into a circle it was so soft. im coming to think nothings easy on these cars.

    I took a chunk of flesh from my pinky lol and slipped n headbutted the door lol....... That was just on the first bolt.

    Has anyone tryed the torx with an air impact driver ? can you get one in there?.....Tosh

    I think the idea of torx is that they are less likely to slip and round off...the spanner or head has a better grip. In practice not always the case. Also this means they can be tightened up much too much!

    You need a strong bar to crack off the bolts first before you use your ratchet and also worth buying quality impact sockets which take more force.

    The torx is to stop the diy motorist from doing jobs on cars as it's more of a specialist tool rather than the norm socket set.

    Air gun used here for large bolts above say 19mm socket size no need for anything below that.

    As above, get yourself and good set and a breaker bar.. Not come across one I couldnt undo yet.... also helps with an impact gun

    Never had any problems with Torx bolts.

    Sump plug was obviously over tightened, only needs to be tweeked past hand tight.

    Did my rear disks and pads a few weeks ago and the only torx bolt to undo is the one holding the disk onto the hub, not exactly tight?
