    Default Black Soot Everywhere!

Well after getting a couple of limp home moments I decided to have a quick look around the egr valve area, will be looking at cleaning the egr and boost sensor tomorrow but need to check something.

I removed the intercooler hose above the egr valve and looked through what I believe to be a throttle body as it had the butterfly plate (basically the part the intercooler hose connects to)

It looked a little gunked up so I removed this throttle body which is 4 screws and my god there is black soot everywhere, I dont expect it to be clean but surely this is probably my problem, however Im not sure how I would go about cleaning this out, fair enough I can remove the throttle body, boost sensor and egr vale and clean then but there is a large build up of soot in the part the throttle body sits on, how would I go about cleaning that out, and what is this part?

It doesnt look like it comes out very easily so Im not sure I could remove it so would need to clean in place, Ive attached a couple of pictures of what I found

    Ours is much cleaner.

You just have to drive the car like you stole it and the manifold is clean 130k and still going strong

    Thanks guys,

Will do egr and boost sensor in the morning but:

If I spray carb cleaner in there it won't scratch the surface will it, and I wouldn't be able to check the manifold is all dry before starting the engine, would this matter?
If I drive it at high revs it won't clean out now I guess?
Is there any additive I can add that will clean and keep it clean?
