Only the American Abrams is gas turbine. Our Challengers are good old fashioned (and reliable) Diesel. (Took my lad to the Bovington Tank Museum-hence the close up view of the Chieftan)

Same engine as the old 125 intercity trains. it's called a CV12. When they were designing the new tank transporter for it, they were experimenting with engines for the correct choice. One of the choices was 2, yes 2 Detroit Diesels in series, and it wasn't powerful enough, so they put the same engine as what's in the tank, in the transporter. When I was a fitter in the mob and we used to follow the transporters with a challenger on the back, we couldn't keep up in our Bedford MJs. Best tank in the world- Challenger 2

pmsl!!! That'd scare the s**t out of the crims if they appeared on patrol!!! You'd soon put stop to any TWOCers - don't bother chasing them to get them off the road, just blow them off the road!!!

I think it was about three that Challenger did. It used to make me chuckle how there would be a few 20 litre jerry cans of fuel slung on the sides. That's gonna get you miles isn't it
