    Default 17in alloys

I'm thinking of replacing my steel wheels with a set of alloys, my old ones are 16's though, would 17's affect the speedo reading or ecu etc, ta.

As long as you put the right sized tyres on then the speedo will be the same, The correct size for 17`s are 215/50`s though 225/45`s are cheaper and can also be used.

Just to add to that, the 225/45/17 are actually listed by Vx as an alternative to the 215/50/17 so you can go with them knowing that they shouldn't cause any problems.

So how come 225/45`s are cheaper? They are wider and lower profile!

Because they are a much more common size. A lot of other makes/models of cars use this size. As they are produced in bigger numbers then they are cheaper than a size that is less common.

As this is a popular question, I have put up a post in it's own right.

Under Car Chat titled Swaping Wheels and tyres.

Thanks for your advice lads, would there be a noticable difference in road holding, comfort, ride etc with the 17's on.

As far as I am aware, the Vectra C was never offered with 225 45 17" tyres?

    Duncan,

Where did you find this out?

Also, does anyone (Bainie) know, whether the wheel nuts from my steels will fit alloys, or are the alloy nuts chrome ?
