    guys would a faulty thermostat cause limp mode/spanner light ??????

    Nope but a duff water temperature sensor would.

    is that the wee sensor on the side of the thermostat housing ????.... how can i tell if its gone ???

    Should be yeah, which engine do you have? I'm not sure apart from reading the fault code or trying another one in it. If you were somewhat closer you'd be more than welcome to swap it and see if everything worked ok.

    ive the 1.9cdti sri mate,,,,, my head is fried big time with this car,,,nearly 1000 euro spent on it in the last 2 weeks and still not going right,,..... the engine tempersature guage only rises at idle or moving through town,,but when out on the open road at 6omph,,it drops back to cold,,,,this would point to thermostat ?????? i dont know what to think anymore,,,,,my last hope is that if i do the 3rd injector wiring mod,,,it will sort it

    your best bet is to read the fault codes,expensive to keep replacing parts as you know by the trouble you have had

    I'd take the thermostat off and test it in boiling water to rule out any faults with that. If it seems ok, try and get a temperature sensor for it and go from there. A bad thermostat wouldn't cause any errors but the sensor would.
