Angry I must have super hearing, *&%! dealers

So cheesed off, had the car booked into the dealers today as it has been making a "whining noise" which gets louder when the engine is warmer.

So, they have had it all day (since 8:30am) I had to chase them at 4:30pm only to be told the "technician" is looking at it now and will ring me back in a "short while".

So I phoned them back at 5:15pm, still no answer. Finally got a call back at about 5:30pm.

Aparently they cannot find anything wrong with my car. Aparently, the rear nearside suspension also does'nt knock. So that's why everyone who has been in the car has said "what's that knocking noise?" when they have sat in the back and I have never told them about it, moreover, I can hear it it in the front FFS.

What really gets me about the whining noise is that I explained it fully on a number of occaisons what happens.

    I.E;

The noise does not occur when the engine idles
The noise does not occur when the engine is revved
You cannot hear the whine with the windows down.
You can hear the noise in gear from 1500 revs onwards in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th & 6th - it's loud, you can hear it above the 'normal' turbo whistle.
Change gear and the noise goes with the reves dying.

Oh and finally, you don't hear this noise in any other car, so why the **** can only I hear it in my car and no-one elses then?

I'll bet he plugged the computer in, found no fault codes so there is nothing wrong!

Take to an independant garage where a mechanic works - he'll have it diagnosed within seconds!

I would, I seriously would. Unfortunately, I don't know anyone in the hastings area I would trust.

Tomorrow, I am making my way to Tunbridge Wells to go for a "test" drive so I can point it out.

I feel for you mate, been there several times , they probably did hear it but can't locate it or is a job they don't want to take on, had and am having a similar thing with a transmission oil leak on my mazda 6 , the dealer just didn't seem to want to know after having thought they'd fixed it only for me to find they hadn't , however a letter went off to head office with my disgust in this dealership and all of a sudden got a call from the dealer who had a call from head office after reading my letter and they couldn't do enough for me to try and fix this leak, although still not sure it's sorted as yet for one reason or another, so might be worth a call or letter as I did and see what happens, ****** dealers just haven't got a clue what they're doing half the time!!
    Cheers Pete

Will also see if I can get them jack the car up and drive it in gear and see what happens.

Thinking out loud, if and that's a big if, it's the gearbox albeit expensive, it's economically just about worth getting done considering what was paid for the car, milage what it's worth etc.

I may well do, I just want to know what it is, no matter what the answer as long as it's the correct diagnosis. I can then deal with it, not knowing is screwing with my head.

Have you used this dealership before?
If so, regularly or not very often?
This is a common issue, so take the car back and request a demonstration with the Service Manager

If you weren't charged, then try another dealership (different company)
Equally, as above, try a local garage (as they have more of a reputation to uphold and will be more honest "We can't find it, can you demonstate it please")

Finally, if you have breakdown cover then most will happily come out as this may be a fault that requires repair
They can then report on what exactly the fault is, you can either supply the parts for them to fit or take the repair worksheet and instruct a garage to complete that repair
