Default Vectra 2.2 Direct intermittent misfire?

Up until very recently, my car has behaved perfectly for months on end which is very unusual!

Basically I can be in any gear at any speed and the engine will splutter/misfire very briefly, say for a second or two then clears itself.
It feels like a fuel starvation problem rather than ignition. This has been happening for a few days now and will happen consistently every few miles.

I am well aware of the high pressure fuel pump and regulator problems surrounding the z22yh engine as I have replaced the regualtor twice already!

There are no warning lights at all and no codes stored.

If my hp pump is about to go up the swany, surely I would have codes relating to low fuel pressure (P1191) like I did when the regulator went faulty?

I think I'll change the fuel filter for a start but any thoughts/advice would be greatly appreciated

    Cheers.

    Edit :

You won't get any codes on the HP fuel pump, mine went a few weeks ago, some garage pointed to the regulator, but it was actually the pump after Vx tech2

    Thanks for the reply.

With my obd code reader showing live readings, I think I remember seeing the fuel pressure of around 5000kpa when it's running normaly.

In theory, if it's the hp pump thats failing, when it does it's spluttering/misfiring, I should see a drop in fuel pressure?

I hope it's not the pump, it looks easy enough to change but cost £300.

Oh and one more question, howcome a failed hp pump doesn't throw up any codes or engine management lights?

    Thanks again

Dont know mate, when mine went i was sitting stationary, the EML came on and then the car hit limp mode, no warnings what so ever, the AA couldnt get a reading and i got to a garage, the instantly thought it was the regulator till i told them it had been replaced, so they told me to contact Vx.

Vx had the car a few hrs and told me the reg was indeed throwing the fault but it was the HP pump at fault,

Its a 20 min job to do, but as you said its expensive, there about £200 from ebay, and vx parts i think,

As spenny suggests sounds like the pump - mine went into limp mode with eml light on but has now changed to engine light and splutters and sounds like it's firing on 3 when you give it any revs. AA could not get any codes, took it to vx today for a recall on the fuel pressure regulator which they say has not fixed the prob and therefore it is the pump that has failed - £500 to replace at 35k its a joke.

    500 quid,
it's a 20 min job, get a pump from eBay or Vx parts online, make sure it's continental, and u will be fine
