Unhappy Tyre valve bust...going on hols tomorrow!!

Typical. Had lush day in garden, bbq, wine etc. Going away for a few days first thing in the morning and so I thought I would give the tyre pressures a quick check. Got to the last tyre which needed a little top up and when I took the foot pump off the valve.......ssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss sssssssssssssssssssss... The valve stem nipple thing inside was just flopping around. After a few seconds of shouting F*%k!!! I quickly had to move the car off the drive as it's a tad steep. Got the space saver on now and will have to sort it first thing. Of all the times for it to happen and i have checked them loads of times. Has this happened to anyone?? Will the whole valve stem have to be changed or do they just screw those nipple things in from the outside with a special tool?

Couldn't believe it!! May be I was a bit rough removing the foot pump from the stem. We drive to France every year on holiday....glad it's happened now really coz I am paranoid about checking the tyres when we drive any distance. Off to York tomorrow and it's only an hour and a half or so. Kwik fit opens at 08.30 tomorrow.

Had exactly the same on my left rear the other day....

... coming out of work I thought the rear looked a little wonky so checked the pressure .... 7 psi !!

Got home slowly and pumped it up with footpump.... except it wouldn't go over 20psi. Then as I took the hose off...sssssssssssssssssssssss.

A little wiggling and I found the valve stem had split just at the base of the brass thread.

Spare alloy (different thread ) fitted and off down to my local National. £10.50 later, new valve, tyre re-fit and balance. Safe again.

Yes mate tried that but the larger flat brass piece across the bottom will not budge. The nipple is pushed down and has no "spring" in it so it doesn't spring back.

Well I'm all sorted. Waited 20 minutes and then it took 20 seconds to unscrew the valve put new one in and check for leaks. Plus he didn't charge me. Result!
