Well after some ummming and ahrrrrrring I finally decided to colour code the bottom trim. So I started with the new front splitter I purchased.
Off I went to halfrauds to obtain the correct paint I asked the assistant behind the counter for some star silver 3 to be mixed, Opel code Z157. He then asked his mate to show him how to find it on the computer………Oh dear alarm bells start ringing…! So to cut a long story short the first assistant managed to get me my paint. I paid and went on my way to start the job off as the prep work was already done, primed etc.
I started spraying and the paint was clear with flecks of silver in it. I thought…………Naahhh this can’t be right. Anyway I continued for a bit and the can ran out of gas with it still being ¼ full? I tried the next tin and the colour was the same. I was looking at the job and thinking is that star silver or just the primer I can see through the paint. Hmmmm I know I’m off back to the frauds to Kick some butt.
I went in and explained what had transpired. They tested the paint and said well that isn’t right. This was at 4.45Pm and it was due to close at 5. Anyway a different bloke mixed me another two tins of the stuff. I took it home and started again. Wow what a difference………….A perfect match for my car.....
Conclusion…….
If you want a good mix/colour match of paint for your car Don’t ask the young weekend worker ask the bloke who runs the place. It will save a lot of hassle. The front splitter is now finished, I'm well happy and the rest of the trim will follow
