    Default Towbar advice

    hi guys

i have a 53 vectra estate elite 3.2v6 basically i need a towbar for it mainly just for my bike rack but if i am getting a towbar i would want one that could pull a caravan (had one in the past) as well

which would be the better options the swaneck, or a detachable one i used to have the old 2 bolt one on my vec b and towed all over the country with it but when i read up on the towbars they dont recommend them ones for major towing

Ive got a detachable "parking sensor" on the back of my estate, I keep the bar in the boot side panel as I rarely tow either, but you never know when someone will want something shifting, lol! Also, that extra bit of metal at the back is a nice reassurance if someone wants to go up your chuff, eek!

i was told that Westfalia are the ones sold by VX themselves so thats why i went for that one. only bought the electrics from VX though and fitted myself, saved a fair bitv money that way. look through my threads for the 'how to'

Can't quite figure out what major towing involves. A detachable towbar will tow up to the max weight of the max rated towing weight of the car, as will a flange towbar

If you are going to use the towbar every second day then i'd fit a fixed or swan neck on but it it's just for occasional use then a detachable one will be fine

Then there is the problem if you want to tow the caravan hand have the bike rack too, in that case your only option would be a 2 bolt towbar

I have a PCT detachable bar with VX electrics and use it to tow a trailer and occasionally a caravan

tbh all towbars will tow more than what the cars capability is, they have to to mee the requirements legally, we have a westfalia detachable (sourced through vx and the best make of towbar) on my dads vectra and are atm towing a massive 1350kg twin axle caravan with no problems
