Unhappy Vectra 2.2 Direct vs cam chain

Brought my 6 year old (51000 miles) Veccy to de dealer last week to replace a defective CIM module which set me back for around 250 euros. He phoned me the same day and told me that he had heard a slight rattle while starting the engine which idicated that the chain had to be replaced. Chain replaced ? I thought these things should last a lifetime ?
Not with the 2.2 he told me and after reading the forum and the z22se website I know better. The 2.2 has some issues
Repair is scheduled for coming Tuesday and will cost me around 1000-1200 euros. For that they replace the 2 chains and the tensioner for one from a turbo engine.

Do you guys (and girls) have any experience with this ? Is this the right way to go at it and will this solve the issue forever ?
The told me that Opel won't pick up anything from the bill because the car is older than 5 years but since this is clearly a tear and wear issue in my opinion it has more to do with milage that age. Any off you has any experience about how Vauxhall handles these issues financialy ? Thanks for your input.

    Vehicle : Vauxhall Astra-J

    Trim : Elite

    Engine : 2.0 CDTi

Tensioner failed on mine. Vauxhall footed 70% of the repair bill for a new chain and tensioner they fit to the 2.0 turbo engine. The balancer chain wasn't replaced on mine. That hardly goes wrong apparently.

The balancer can also be deleted with a specific kit if required to free up a few more horses...

Well, no luck with Opel. They are only willing to contribute when the car is < 5 years and mine is 6. Set me back 800 euros
