Default FED UP with insurance rises ......

    Hi guys.

I've just had my renewal through and its gone up in excess of £300 from last year!!!

Same car, same address, no points on licence etc etc...

I rang them up and asked if it was a mistake or if they could match a quote that I've had from one of those comparison sites and they said
'No, sorry, thats the best we can offer you!'

I've heard of Chris Knott insurance on here, is it worth giving them a try? Or does anyone else reccommend anyone for Veccy's?

    Cheers

Shop about is the best advice I can give you. Try and find a "good" quote then shop about again and try to use the best price you've had to drive some of the others down.

I think the latest reason used by the insurance industry is that the number/value of fraudulent claims being made is affecting their profits.

You can also find that with the same insurance company you can get a cheaper quote as a new customer than your renewal. I had this a couple of years ago with Privledge. Renewal price was £200 more than doing a quote as a new customer, so obviously took the new customer quote. The ironic thing was I still had to get them to post out a proof of no claims bonus in order to just send it straight back to them.

Remember insurance companies always have to make money. If they had to pay out 20% more than usual over the last winter of bad whether, then your premiums this year will rise by at least that ammount. Its very simple really.

They look at the ammount they paid out last year, estimate how many policies they will sell and price them to cover the pay outs and some profit....

When my renewal came through it went up by a few hundred quid, so doing a quick compare the meerkat showed all companies charging more than the renewal, even the same insurance company were going to charge me over double if I was a new customer!

A quick phone call to ask them why it had gone up so much, and they knocked about £100 straight off... bonkers, but a result

Mine went down this year, only by £20, but it went down none the less. Although I've protected my no claims and added recovery to my policy so it's actually increased, but still I've got a good deal. With Adrian Flux.

I've never accepted a renewal, always contacting them to confirm the policy must not be renewed
Also the Direct Debit is cancelled three days after the final payment is made

I've used argoscompare for the last three years
Same prices as other comparison engines, but you receive £30 of Argos Vouchers once you have your policy for 2 months and apply for the vouchers
