    Default Swirl valves

Can anyone tell me if the swirl valves are meant to shut when you start the car, or even shut at any point when reving it?

The swirl valves will be closed when the engine is stopped and at low revs.

As the engine revs increase, the flaps will move to the open position. Can't remember the exact speed at which they move, but it is around 2500-3000rpm.

What is your engine as the 2.2DTI has them and they are supposedly meant to be opened when the engine is off - though not 100%.

CDTI 150's are supposed to be closed at engine switch off. If the control rod for it is off or actuator has failed then this will cause the flaps to stay in one position.

My 2 lire DTI swirl flaps are open when engine is off, also reving the engine when stationary does not cause them to move (close).

But i read somewhere that they only operate when the vehicle is moving & under load.

Try cleaning the boost sensor or simply try to push on the electrical connector on it

I "cleaned" the swirl flaps on our 2.2DTI. It's fairly easy and it's called FULL THROTTLE EVERYWHERE i.e. redline revving up to 5000rpm wherever possible.

i your testing all your actuators, pull the vacum line of at the oposite end of the atuator, and suck the pipe, then hold your tounge over the pipe and see if it opens up again. it shouldnt.
