    Default ** V V URGENT ** Need Clutch Advice

As we speak the car is in at the stealers to have the DMF done. It is covered under the warranty so no cost to me there. Im quite pleased that they have offered me the chance to have the clutch replaced at the same time though while everything is stripped out.

The first quote they gae me for the clutch was £411 all in which I thought was a bit dear, plus I dont have the money, so I said no thanks. However, they have just phoned back and said they can get a part from ECP and I would only have to pay £215 all in to have it fitted.

At a very rough guess, Im presuming this is the part in question. I just want to know what peoples opinion is on this and if its worth doing. Is the clutch part decent enough and worth paying out for?

Makes sense to have both done at the same time, and the price seems reasonable. Would cost a helluva lot more if done separately later.

The DMF and clutch were both replaced at the same time on my car under Manufacturer's Warranty; maybe they only do the DMF without the clutch under other warranties like Network Q?

    Default Go for it.

In my view its a no brain'er, while its all off put the clutch in.

You will feel good about it if you intend keeping the car.

Ive only had it 2 months so it'll be a keeper for a good while yet!

Is the part in the link decent enough though? I'm guessing with the price its a budget clutch. Would hate it to go a year down the line or something.

No point having the DMF done and not changing the clutch. If you didn't get it done and the clutch died shortly after you'd be seriously kicking yourself.

You'd have trouble wearing out even a cheap clutch plate in a year lol

It's described as a LUK/Valeo kit. LUK has been mentioned on here several times as a suitable make of clutch IIRC.

On my last car I was told to go with LUK, Valeo or Sachs and to stay away from anything else. Hope the same applies to Vecs

uprated clutch /flywheels are generally Sachs ...its the valeo ones that have failed in the past

there should be no labour costs as its out to replace the DMF which there getting covered via Warranty .......

so why is the Clutch sooooooooo expensive sounds like there trying to recoup some of their money in losses from the warranty rates to me

They're getting the clutch from ECP he said, and in the link Ive posted above, its £215 just for the part. Thats all they are going to charge me for. As you said, all the labour costs are for the DMF and thats a freebie to me under the warranty.

Sod it - told them to put the clutch in at the same time. £215 all in seems a fair price for it and as Ian-Highlander said, Id be kicking myself if the clutch went soon after having the DMF done. Work and new part will have a warranty on it too, so I should have peace of mind for a while. With my luck with cars, thats priceless!!
