    Question coolant gone low?

Started the car just now and some symbol came up, so i had a look under the bonnet and my coolant was low. i topped it up with a glass of water for the time being. my question is, what would make the car lose a glass full of coolant?

I lost coolant from TWO places recently.

The first was from the actual expansion tank. The tank had failed along the middle seam and when it got hot the water went up past the line and slowly leaked out. I got a new tank from Dealers for £18.

The second leak was from the radiator. I was getting a puddle under the left front side of the car. I took the under tray off to have a look and there was a tiny leak coming from the bottom left of the radiator.

I used RADWELD in the coolant to stop it. About £7 from Halfords.

lol. ive just had the car running for an hour, got it nice and hot, the temp was stable, couldn't find any leaks anywhere, no puddles or drips. does the coolant go down with time? i havent checked mine in a while tbh.

It should never drop in theory. But you may have a leak m, very small that's dropping over time.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

Have a look at the back of the tank. Also over time if the tank is damaged, you will notice white residue where its slowly been leaking. I noticed it on the pipe thats connected at the bottom of the tank.

    What is the oil like?

Buy a one litre bottle of anti freeze and coolant
Prepare a one litre bottle of 50:50 of this coolant and water, carry this in the car
I use an old screenwash bottle that has 100ml marks on it
When topping up this is then easy to measure to see how much is required

Small infrequent top-ups are nothing to worry about, say once every six months
However, if it becomes regular and/or large, then it needs investigation
The usual cause is internal gasket failure, so inspect the oil before every engine use for that day

Water pump could be gone mate. Mine was going through about 1 litre of coolant every 3 days.
