    Default the "10k boost"

from what i can gather, you take this stuff and introduce it into the intake and its supposed to "clean" the intake system of carbon and deposits?.... is this right and how affective is it.

you will get mixed reviews about this but I used it on my old Nissan Primera and my wife's old KA and noticed an immediate improvement. annoys the neighbours when your revving it through though! however I've been doing some research into spray through cleaners recently and I'm bending towards either BG44K or Comma d-tox. BG44K has great reviews across the pond and used by big name German garages as part of service now but pricey stocked by kwiksh*t. and the Comma has the same active ingredients but less than half the price.

I like the claims that they don't increase bhp but help to restore it!

There is no oil breather connection on the throttle body.

I ain't a fan of this as by accounts it sounds like the engine doesn't like it - when you hear of the smoke that it pours out.

so its supposed to get rid of the carbon deposits in the intake?.. well from what iv seen, thats quite a mighty task and specially on the diesels that mix hot gas with oily intake air as it gums the intake up bad and i for one cant see a bottle of quick fix getting rid of the build up.

only thing i can see it doing, is dissolving the area it "touches" and maybe cleaning the valve seats?... and as gazza said, i dont like the idea of the cleaner plus the rubbish it takes with it getting burnt in the cylinders as id say that would lead to varnishing of the bores or even taking the much needed gum off the piston rings that aids compression in older cars.

iv asked cos my 2.2 dti's intake is pretty gummed up and i recon it needs taking off and giving a damn good clean but it looks a pretty involved job and wondered about this 10k stuff but i dont think il bother.

I have used carb cleaner twice a year for the last 6 years on my 1.9CDTI. I just disconnect the inlet pipe to the turbo then slowly spray as it idles. I press the throttle every now and then to blast it round the system. When I put everything back, I have to clear the spanner light with my code reader as the MAF sensor is effectively disconnected during the process.

Works great for me, no problems yet and a smooth runner always.
