vac pipe valve

Hi all, my 3.0cdti y30dt engine has a small what seems to be a non return valve on the vac pipe to the solenoid on top of the turbo. On replacing the rubber pipe the valve broke. What is the purpose of this valve and where would you get one vx could not find the part on their system.

halford have them next to the screen wash pumps, its a one way breather if i remember correctly.
