    Default EGR.. Valve.. Just quickie..

    Hi Peeps

Had an engine management light come, after a few days, took it too my local garage, he plugged in the reader and advised the EGR was at fault (he did say what the code, there were two, but I have forgot, sorry). Anyway he advised just to clear the code, if it comes back then it will need replacing.

Since he has reset the alarm, have not noticed any change in performance during or since and doesnt appear to have chnaged the way the car drives..confused..

It came on after the wife got stuck on the motorway on a hot day, stop/starting for an hour or two.

So could it have just got stuck? and cleared?

should I just replace it, or wait untill it re-appears?

    cheers for any experience... advise!

    DV

it might be getting stuck because its gunked up.

It'll be worth taking it off and give it a clean with carb cleaner. You'll need to get the new gaskets when you do this. HOW2 HERE for removal.

Also clean the Boost Sensor whilst your in cleaning mode! HOW2 HERE.

If it happens again afterwards then you may need a new EGR.

Not sure about the gaskets. Perhaps call your local dealer to confirm.

As for the EGR it depends how gunked up it gets by the maner in which its driven. If its alot of town driving at low-revs then it can get gunked pretty quickly.

I've noticed that the 1.9 EGR's tend to fail quicker than the DTi's. Not sure why this is.

The egr gaskets (both) can be reused no probs!, be carefull removing them as i have done many times with 'no' leaks or problems.

EGR problems in my oopinion for what it's worth and in spite of the potential risks - Blank it off.

For what gaskets cost I would just buy new, but that's moi!!
