Talking Results from todays hard graft.

So, today's hard work (and it was damned hard work)

I bought this hose kit from Neo Brothers, it's the Maptun kit for the Saab 9.3ss which uses the same 2.0T engine as the Vec. They'd warned me that one of the hoses would be a tight fit and I'd need to stretch it slightly when fitting to get it on right but that it was fine once on and they were right. In fact a couple of the hoses weren't quite right, I had to use some serious effort to get the intercooler hose on the passenger side connected and the water hose down the drivers side to the turbo was fractionally shorter than the original but went on fine with a bit of tugging. The only one I'm very slightly bothered about is the main radiator hose on the passenger side which touches on the clutch mechanism arm which obviously moves every time you press the clutch in so I'm slightly worried about that rubbing a hole in the hose but will make up a plate or some sort of protective cover for it when I get time.

I didn't have enough of the vacuum hose to do all the smaller hoses (still have just under a metre left which I'll use on some tomorrow probably) and need an even smaller one to do some of them, so those will follow soon. The kit also doesn't include any of the water hoses for the heater matrix so again I'll be looking for those at some point.

Overall I'm well chuffed with the way these look and I think one of my old intercooler hoses may have been leaking as there is a noticeable performance increase so hopefully my next rolling road test should show my map closer to what it should be now lol.

    Anyway, the pics.

A standard (and very dirty) looking 2.0T

    Engine cover off.

Airbox out and new intercooler and turbo hoses ready.

Main inlet hose removed and throttle body cleaned.

    New hose trial fitted.

And connected to new replacement down pipe to the intercooler.

Bottom of that pipe to the intercooler connected.

Drivers side of the intercooler hose on.

Couple of vacuum pipes changed on the turbo and getting ready to fit the first water pipe (top of radiator to engine and turbo).

    A few bits.

Drivers side radiator hose on and two water return hoses connected.

Fitting the bottom hose on the water bottle.

Main passenger side radiator hose fitted.

All back together and looking great, just needs a damned good cleaning now.

Just as I got to the last hose connection, the thread went on the connecting bolt holding the two parts of my adjustable grips making them next to useless. Unfortunately as I didn't have a jubilee clip the right size, I had to somehow find a way of using the original spring clip (which is what I'd been using these for in the first place to hold the clips open and slide onto the hoses). After several attempts at trying to get these things to work well enough to do the last connection and several times having the damn things ping open just as I was about to get the clip in place and knowing that I couldn't go anywhere to get a new set as the cooling system was empty and needed this hose on before it could be filled, I errrrm "improvised"...

Yes, that really is a pair of mulgrips locked onto the two parts of the adjustable grips holding them together so I could use them long enough to get the last clip on. thankfully it worked.

Just the one hose left to do, the short one (about 3" - 4" long) from the bottom of the turbo to the top of the main pipe that goes round the bottom of the engine to the intercooler. Sir Bob is very kindly coming up tomorrow to give me a hand with that and a lesson in DA'ing
