Changing Oil Filter - DTi

Quick question. I serviced my Signum 2.0 DTI at the weekend, well attempted to anyway
I dropped the oil ok but found I did not have a socket big enough to remove the oil filter. I had no choice but to fill it back up with fresh oil.
I've since sourced a 36mm socket (not tried it to see if it fits, but read several posts on here that said it was 36mm) and was wondering if it is possible to change the filter without dropping the 3 day old oil out of the engine...or is oil going to ooze out of the filter housing when filter is removed?
I know it is far from ideal to change oil then days later change the filter, how tenable would this be?
Or should I just buy a fresh load of oil and start from scratch again?

im not too sure where the oil filter housing is located on a 2.0dti,,but on the 1.9cdti,,its on the rear of the block and is kinda sloping down ,,,so it might be hard to remove old filter without losing some oil,,,altho if engine was cold ,,,there shouldnt be that much oil so high up as to spill out from filter housin when opened

It's at the front of engine bay at the top. It does seem high enough to be probably ok if I let engine cool down for a while and let oil drain into the sump.

it should not be a problem then,,,ive done this also on other cars in the past,,,,,,and only had very small oil spillage from the housing,,,,,, u should be good to go

Should I look to make my next oil change a bit sooner then normal? There must be a fair amount of the old oil left in the filter that has been mixed in with the new....its jet black on the dip-stick allready after about 60 miles driving.

as far as i know mate,,,with any diesel cars ive had in the past,,and done oil changes on,,fresh engine oil turns black very fast,,..i could be wrong though

On the dti fresh to black on new oil and filter is about 3 seconds of runing time well always was on my 2.0 dti, just change the filter, top up any lost oil its not going to be much. you could drop the oil if you wanted to but the new filter is probably more important than the new oil.

You should get away with changing the filter on it's own. And as said it's 100% normal for a diesels oil to turn black within minutes of changing.

Great, thanks everyone. Will swap filter over in a mo.
Just the dreaded fuel filter to go! I've always shyed away from this because I'm scared of damaging the expensive pump when starting it back up. The section about the fuel pump in the Haynes manual put the fear of god in me!
I've read about filling the filter housing with diesel and the how 2 on here about loosening the fourth injector until diesel comes out, so hopefully it will be ok. Do you need to dis-connect the fuel lines and actually remove the housing from the crash box, or can you just lift the top off and swap the filter? I want to disturb as little as poss! How does the quick release mech on the fuel lines work, it doesn't look that obvious to my simple mind. Thanks again.

2.0 dti fuel filter si a easy job, unbolt torx screw at the top, lift out screw, lift off top, remove filter.

Remove seal around the canister lid, remove seal o the torx screw.
Attech new filter, fill with diesel / redex etc, put lid back on, tighten screw.

The screw is 20nm this as a rule of thumb is about finger tight.

The 2.0 dti is self priming what you do is put key in the ignition, turn to position 2, turn off and remove key ( repeat 4 times ) on the 5th turn ignition on and start as normal.
