Hope that someone will be able to help with this, as it starting to do my head in a bit.
My Power Steering failed about 3 weeks ago, and I got the steering wheel and exclamation mark warning light. I had a checked around and found nothing obvious, fluid level ok, battery ok, alternator ok, so took it to a mechanic who told me the pump had gone. Not a problem, I sourced a second hand pump with a lot less milage, which was duly fitted. Upon starting the car uo for the first time afterwards everything was fine, pump was working and the steering was back to normal. switched ignition off whilst refitted inner wing, however on restarting the steering was heavy again, but no warning light and pump not working. So I checked on the forum and looked at problems that others had had in the past. So I have recehcked the Battery, alternator, fuzeable link, rechecked cleaned all the connection, fluid level ok.
I work away so the car was left for the week whilst away and on return I tried to take on the problem again. Once more on initial starting the steering was ok and I could hear the pump, however the steering quickly got heavy again. turned off car checked fluid level ok and battery everything fine, but I ran the car up or about 1/2 an hour just on the off chance that was the problem, recheked afterwards still still nothing, but still no warning light, I did the pedal test to get any fault codes but nothing came up. I dont want to admit defeat and visit a rip off vauxhall dealer which will cost a fortune, but its getting close to it, so if anybody could please shead some light on this problem it may well save my sanity
