LPG Conversion-worth it?

Hi guys
ive got a 2004 3.2 gsi and have been toying with the idea of getting it lpg'd with the rising price in petrol etc and wanted some opinions! i dont do a great deal of mileage but am still spending about £150 a month on petrol and even though lpg has been increasing in price its still only around 80p a litre! i have seen these guys locally who seem to have a good reputation http://www.professautogas.co.uk/prices.html any advice/ideas would be appreciated

If you're only spending £150 per month on petrol, it would take far too long to pay for the conversion in what you would save.

Well to pay it back will take a year roughly so I don't see that as an issue, reduction in performance doesn't seem an issue any more either or the reduction in mpg like it used to be but i guess i've got to convince myself it's worth doing! I wonder if a tank could be fitted externally as the vectras a fair size? If not losing the spare wouldn't bother me too much!

I don't know what system they use but personally I'd only fit a prins or brc kit as I have heard very good things about them.

I can't help thinking that when the government twig that more and more people are converting to LPG the price will go through the roof!
They did it with diesel.

Been using lpg for nearly four years now and they have always said that. I've heard there are just over two hundred thousand registered alternative fuel cars with the DVLA so it isn't catching on big style. I think most drivers now would go for diesel, there ecomony is just as good.

To respond to two or three of the posts above:

Break even would depend on your mileage - it is fairly easy to work out but on average you need to be keeping your car for approx 25,000 miles ( a bit lower for something like my V6).

BRC - defo. Good system

Boot space - doesn't need to take up any. Most fitters use a doughnut tank which replaces the spare wheel. I just carry an inflater with a sealing gel for punctures (and you can get them now which still leave the tyre repairable)

Price differential - I know we can't always trust politicians but a guarantee was made a year ago that the differential would stay for at least four years so another three to go

Fair enough, but reading your last point, they said that about tuition fees as well!
I did read somewhere that when things settle down in the middle east the price of oil may come down to a more realistic level.
