Default Possibly buying first Signum tomorrow. Please help.

    Hello all,

Have been looking at a few signums today, they seem to suit our needs and you get a decent amount of car for your money.

Just a few questions for you experts please as it's my first Signum (& Vauxhall) and I am generally regarded as rubbish with cars:

    1) 2004 plate, 2.2 Design, Petrol, Manual, 89k on the clock, ex Cat C, seems to run ok, not overheating etc. Anything to be worried about here

    2) Top of the gear stick keeps coming away just leaving the stick exposed. Dealer says it's just a spring and he can fix it. This sound normal?

    3) Seems to run fine, not bangs or knocks, just engine seems overall to be a bit louder than my pug. I could understand if a diesel but this is a Petrol. Is this normal.

    4) The radio doesnt seem to work and is flashin "SAFE". Dealer says it just needs resetting as battery came out. Does this seem right?

    5) When the bonnet is open there seems to be a big exposed grill with the odd dent. Not sure if this is a problem?

    6) Anything else I should be looking out for? And are there any sites I can put in the reg and get more info on the cars history?

    Many thanks

All help so gratefully received as we have just had a little girl and I can't afford to waste my money on a car which might be constantly in the garage.

    Thanks

    Trev

No such thing as an ex- CAT C. Once a Cat C always a CAT C. in other words, selling it afterwards will always attract questions and a lower price. personally i would not buy any car that was cat C or D unless I had no thoughts of ever selling it. With so many well priced siggs around are you sure you want to do this?

    I'll answer what I can....

2 ..... This is an easy fix.

3 ..... A good service could quieten it down.

4 ..... "Safe" on the radio means the power has been interrupted, just needs the code entering.

6 ..... Get it HPI checked

Thanks for the answers so far.

The Cat C issue worries me in terms of damage (although it was Cat C'd in 2009 so has been driven around since) but no so much interms of sell-on value at the price I'm paying. I'd run it into the groud for a good few years anyways.

    Cheers

I'd personally go one step further and get the car AA or RAC inspected. At least then you'll know fully what your getting into

That would have been great, and the car is actually in Luton, but unfortunately I need to get a car today as I've sold ours and am meant to be back to work tomorrow.
