    Default Front bearings gone??

    Hi all,

I seem to have slight play left to right but not up and down when I move the front wheel (up on a jack).
I have had the front track road ends replaced as they were an advisory on my last MOT as having slight play. I think it looks like that the MOT place was wrong as it is in fact play in the bearing?

When I turn left or right say in a car park I get what seems like brake disc squeal. This only happens once the car has warmed up and at low speed.

Considering the high mileage my car has done I think its telling me that it needs new bearings!

I checked our Signum and done the same test and there was no play in the wheel.

Easy/cheap job or am I going to need help again?

Its an easy job mate, hardest part is getting one of the bolts out from the hub, other than that its straight forward, make sure you have the tools, especially for the centre bolt

I did mine in about an hour,

Morning Lee, 2 things..... I believe with these bearings the maximum permissible play is something like 0.4mm which you wouldnt be able to feel by doing the old wheel check method and secondly you sure its not the crap guard and the bottom of the disc touching ever so slightly as you turn?

I think I took my crap guard off as I have put the 314mm discs and callipers on.

I can feel the movement so it looks like bearings then as I do not have the same movement on the Signum..

Would they move up and down as well as that seems fine?

imagine they would do. but have a look for the crap guard dont think its part of the main shield you would have removed better checking first rather than changing bearing unless needed

Did I forget to say I am running 5mm spacers on the front along with Eibach -30mm springs, B6's and 235/45/18 tyres fitted to 8J wheels. I sure none of that would help wear the bearing over 141k

Yes I know the bit you are on about now. I did check the disks for scoring as I thought maybe a pebble had got caught but nothing, they are all nice and flat

I get the same movement on drivers and passenger side, and it might have been making a noise both sides come to think of it.
