    Default Engine power

This is going to sound stupid but I'm going to fire away, why does the VVTi feel so underpowered compared to the 150cdti?

Diesels tend to have a much higher torque output but lower max revs, which means petrols get more power out of less torque at the higher rev range due to the revs, but suffer low down. Were as a diesel just hits you with all its got

Well before the dirty diesel brigade rub there hands with glee and as another vvt owner i'll put two penneth in as people always seem to jump on this engine.Top speed = almost identical, horsepower roughly nine difference in favour of cdti, nought to sixty 7 tenths roughly to the cdti so on paper very similar, but the torque figure is what counts and the cdti easily outstrips the vvt here making it feel a much more powerful engine. To equal this out in the real world there is service state, tyre pressures, weight carried, mods, driving style etc so if you think your's is outmatched play with different revs, gears etc but ultimately if this engine won't do go change it for something you do think will suit.

you need to rev the nuts off a petrol unless its the v6, the payback is fuel economy.

diesels have turbos and higher torque hence the kick. my old 1.9 tdi galaxy would kick the veccys arse off the lights

    0-60:
    8.9 (CDTI150)
10.2 (VVT) so, a 1.3 second difference there. Manual timings for each.

but, the big thing is the 30-50mph:
    6.2 (CDTI)
    8.6 (VVT)

that's a whopping 2.4 second difference for this important driveability test, and says it all really.
