    Default Noisy Top End

my vectra seems to have a noisy top end rattle coming from the top cover .
could it be the tappets ?
had a problem recently with mayo on the oil filler cap and in a breather pipe .this is because the guy who had the car before me did not go very far in it ..
cleaned these out .but could mayo be in the hydrolic tappets .or in the top of the cover ?
is there something i can put into the oil to remove the mayo ?

can anybody help me with this

car is a vectra 2.2 sri direct
    29000 miles

Mayo in the oil used to be an indication of head gasket.... Dunno if that would cause a rattling noise though

Get it hot and drain the oil and filter.

Then take it for a good blast up the motorway take the revs high through the gears and any sludge in the hydraulic tappets should shift.

The mayo is from local runs and the oil not getting hot & no need for engine flush.

maayo would be underneath the oil cap mate...you might get some on the dipstick too....also check the water reservoir too for oil mixing in the water...

just helps to rule out these problems

    thanks,

    Yes why?

The op is reffering to the hydraulic tappets so i asume he's had it checked, it could be worn cam gear etc.
