    Default ok...changed timing belt and.....

it started yay. I didn't kill it.

However, there is a loud squeel/squeek coming from the engine that gets faster as the engine speed does. How can I figure out of this is coming from the aux belt or something to do with the timing belt? Obviously I had the aux belt pulley and tensioner off. It looks like the aux belt tensioner is vibrating a bit which makes me thing that but I don't want to drive about and it turns out its the timing belt pulley when it fails or something.

    cheers,

perhaps I could take the aux belt off and running it for a couple of seconds? car should be able to run off battery for a bit, albeit it won't be charging?

Can't you remove the Aux belt and start her m8 see if noise is still there. To be honest new Timing belts do tend to squeal a bit till bedded in.

That makes me feel a bit better. I'll take the aux belt off and see what happens just for my own piece of mind. meant to be driving 180 miles toomorrw, a bit nervous.

Another cause of the dreaded squeal can be to much actual tension on the belt..?is the tensioner ok.

The tensioner is set as per Haynes & the How-2 on here. Pointing to the hole.

A bit of googling and someone has said it could be coolant on the belt from changing the water pump?
