    Default Air Con..

Alas, it is that time of year when everyone goes to use their air con and it doesn't turn arctic as desired.. I have had this same issue, despite running it on the way to work since buying the motor (Nov last year).

After looking under the bonnet today, it seems that both of the caps on my air con lines are missing! I understand that the larger of the too is the low pressure line. Would these caps missing cause a leak, or does this stink of a previous issue and they have been left off?

    Cheers!

Usual cause of failure is the condenser behind the front bumper either suffering stone damage, or rotting out and developing a leak.

My Astra has just done this, was working fine on Sunday, stopped working yesterday. On inspection, found bottom couple of rows of the condenser flapping around in the breeze.... 2 months out of warranty too. Joy.

Mine was done nearly 2 years ago by kwik fit and still blows icy cold. It is normal for most cars to loose refrigerant over time and need re-gassed.

If there is a propper leak however I agree it's likely due to a rotten condensor

Not true, we have a 53 plate vauxhall thats never been done. Regardless of the manufacter if the system stays intact (no leaks due to stone damage or being disturbed) then it will last pretty indefinately as long as its used regulary. (untill last year, new of a p reg car where it had never been done thats 14 years!!!) If it is not used all winter, then mould starts to grow, degrading the seals etc.... Use it at least a couple of times a month all year and it will last....
