Default Replaced egr, engine tickover 1300rpm usually 800.

    Vectra 1.9 cdti 120hp
Hi all I hope you can help. If this has been covered I can't find it and I've been reading the post's for a week.
A little background, I've had the car a year with no probs, just about to go on m6 last week and car went into limp with spanner lit on dash, got to services, AA looked at it and cleaned out not very dirty egr and away I went no probs apart from engine tickover revs at 1300 where normally about 800, 2 days later same thing again, so after reading up on symptoms on here I changed the egr for new one (thanks to the how2). Engine revs still high at 1200 and spanner comes on intermittent.
I also put an air induction kit on when I did the egr and took out the air filter box, could that be causing the engine to over rev, or have I missed something.
    Any help appreciated.

    Sounds to me possibly:

    - Open Throttle Body circuit (mines done this - sat at 1,500rpm although I had no throttle control). Yours however is a '07/'08 model so it may not be this. Only earlier CDTI's had TB problems.
    - goosed injector(s)
    - sticking turbo vanes

Thanks for the quick response Gazza.
Would you expectcodes to be registered, as I have not had any.
Whats the remedies for the suggested issues, are they suitable for a diyer or is it the dealer only.

    Update on the above problem.
Car went into limp again today, so got it home, removed and cleaned boost sensor, tickover still at 1200rpm and still in limp with spanner lit.
Removed and stripped the throttle body, black crud from egr cleaned it off, opened up the electronic side and there was oil on the main contact, it looks like it had got in via the spindle to the butterfly, (should there be oil here does it need lubrication), put it all back together, limp mode gone, spanner light out but still tickover 1200 rpm.
I also put the original air filter and box back to see if that was causing the problem.
    Any advice anyone. Thanks

    Jim

Sounds like you might have an air leak from when you did the EGR valve.

Do you mean an air leak at the gaskets or the valve itself.

    Gaskets.

Either not fitted properly or it has damage to it.

Not sure if this works on a diesel but try spraying wd40 around the joints and see if the engine note changes (It works on a petrol)

Thanks for that lee gsi, i'll give it a test tomorrow.
Anybody know if the oil in the throttle body electronics could be causing a problem.

    Thanks

Totaly unrelated but pop into your local kwick fit for a free battery + Alternator test if you cant find a leak at the egr.

    Thanks roswell.
You say its unrelated, but do either of them give the fast tickover problem. I read on here last week that someone had similar issues I think they changed their battery then the alternator went next day.
