I have 292mm rears. When I changed mine I did not need to take the carrier off - the discs came on off with them in place!

I managed to change my old solid rears by only removing on of the bolts and bashing the carrier round out of the way - the other bolt was seized in...

Never tried it with the 292's though...

I've just wasted an evening of blazing sunshine trying to do this.
    2 hours tops...or so I thought!
Nice new set of Mintex discs and pads, spent an hour trying to get the f*****g thing back together on one side - no ****** has said that you need a special tool to wind the piston back in due to the handbrake design!
One of the pads had completely knackered itself (probably cheap **** ones that were fitted just before I bought the car 12000 miles ago), the handbrake has adjusted itself so much that there is no way the thing will go back together without this tool - which, luckily, a mate has so I can crack on tomorrow night.
    Sodding cars!!!!!
