    Default Headlamp Lens replacement

    Hi
Can anyone tell me how to change the headlamp lenses (53reg) - mine are coated with the "varnish" caused by years of hitting flies at 80+ on the continent. I've tried plastic polish and many solvents and non seem to have any effect except acetone which dissolves the lens!

You can find various threads about sanding the headlights in the detailing section, is a cheaper option, if you are brave enough.
How I was told to do it.

Sand using wetted wet and dry paper, starting with 500 grit, followed by 800, 1000, 1200, 1500, 2000 and finally 2500. Then use a good cutting compound (e.g. Farecla G3) and some sort of electric tool (won't work quite as well by hand), I used a mop attachment and a cordless drill. Then apply polish by hand (e.g. Autoglym paint polish). Worked a treat on mine.

    PM Jezzy, he told me

Well, the lens is melted, then sadly it is a new unit
This would also be an opportunity to fit the darkened one, if only the standard ones are fited, as on the SRI

You might want to replace both, as the other will be "dimmer" due to the newer one having clean lenses and untarnished reflectors

I had my nearside fog lamp replaced due to accident damage
The offisde was slightly dimmer, so had it replaced and corrected the issue
Amazing how bad it can be after just two years

Both my front fog lamp lenses are badly scratched, so will need to replaced again

Try to restore it first with Wet N' Dry sand paper. Solvents and compounds on their own will hardly touch it. I would start at 800 grit not 500 (unless its REALLY screwed).

Here was my effort (all done by hand) starting with 800 grit and they were pretty bad. LINKY
