Default Corsa C problem - Video of noise and burning oil

    Hey guys,

Been having a bit of an issue with my girlfriends Corsa C 1.2 sxi (2003) was wondering if any of you can help.

The car is making a noise on startup and presume something pretty serious is badly worn, because it is also burning about 400ml of oil every 60 miles.

I thought the coolant had been disapearing too but think the level was just off after it was serviced.

The spark plugs look like this:

    And it sounds like this:

Had quite a bit of emulsification but it only ever does short journeys and is often started purely to move it off the driveway which is never ideal.

Coolant lid, was very minor here.

Wondering what your thoughts and opinions are, and how much you would estimate it to cost?

    Cylinderhead/Gasket - £800+, the mustard is a worrying sign.

That SOUNDS slightly like rod knock. Has it been hammered recently from cold? I know the C's had timing chain issues but they didn't normally sound like that. I'd try and get a compression test done on the cylinders. Oil is getting into the water somewhere. They should obviously be completely seperate.

A compression test can be done yourself if you buy a kit to do it. Small amounts of emulsion on the oil lid are fine but that's quite a lot. If the bills are looking high, just get another engine in it. It will be cheaper than spending hundreds on repairs.

If it weren't for the mustard, I would ahve said valve sleeves/stems but Water and oil have met and there really is only culprit. The engine could been like this for a while - has it? If so may have run low on oil. I actually though it was a diesel for a split second.

She has never taken it past 3000rpm and it had 2 lady owners before but you never know how it has been treated.

Cost wise as I feared. Were not sure whether to just run with it till it dies and then do that. What are the affects of putting a thicker oil in (10 40 instead of 5 30) without draining it first?

It was very low on oil when she first brought it to my attention we put 2 litres in just to touch the dipstixk but was full before so there was obviously a problem there .

Our Corsa 1.2 done that, end result - litre of oil every week. Got shot of it in the end.

She won't sell it which is a pain, we bought it cause her clio was playing up so she doesn't want the hassle of buying another car and any comeback from a buyer. It's worth noting it isnt noisy once warmed up

You'll either need to find the cause and fix or keep topping up with oil every week or so. There is something seriously wrong anyway, water and oil are mixing.

One of the reasons I never buy such cars, quite often not checking the oil and/or coolant, until service and by then it is too late

What is the oil on the dipstick like?

Personally, cut losses and run from it
You could the frightners on her that the repair is going to cost £2000
