    Default Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA)

(Sorry if this is a repost)

Last week I detailed my fiancée's Fiesta before putting it up for sale and during the evening (when it was dark) I went out to check it (using the street lights). When I looked at the roof, it had (what looked like) polish residue on it and I thought to myself, I had wiped it down properly - obviously not! To that end I have been doing some research and have finally found something that could be of interest to the new detailers on this forum.

    Hope this helps

Yea. Its used as a panel wipe for stripping bodywork back to bare paintwork. You will sometimes notice polishing marks on panels when moisture in the air starts to settle, nothing to worry about

Im a little confused as when to use it. Some websites say after washing and before polishing and other websites say use it after polishing, but before waxing so as to get rid of any residue.

Signumbob is your man to ask about this but this is the way I see it working. If you have fully corrected the paintwork of any scratches and swirls( using a machine polisher and cutting polishes) you could then wipe down with IPA then seal the clean paintwork with wax or sealant. If youve just polished the car and waxed it you would not use IPA after this as that will lift the wax and leave the paintwork unprotected.

This is 100% correct, IPA is used after polishing, and before LSP's, glazes etc (as it will remove them). Its mainly used to remove excess oils that can mask defects/micromarring etc.

Is it normal to re-apply the polish if scratches are still evident after using IPA? So, as link mentions, a 50/50 solution is fine for use after polishing?

Obviously if more correction is needed then yes, re-application of the polish can be done after a IPA wipedown, then a further IPA can be done. 50/50 solution seems to be the norm, I use that kind of dilution.
