    Default Z20NET Turbo

Alright guys just joined the site as looking at getting the vectra 2.0 turbo

I have been in talk with a guy about buying his as his turbo is on the way out and he doesn't want to spend anymore money on the car.

Now i'm used to tuning z20let and z20leh engines and have had a few cars myself with tuned ones of them in, but I haven't really had a look at the z20let.

So I was wondering what kind of turbo upgrade can you put on these engines easily, as I have a choice of either whipping the current turbo off and sending it off to see if can be recon'd or I could upgrade the turbo.

Any help with this would be great cheers.

Depending on what year the car is - pre 06 it will have the Garrett low pressure turbo and post 06 it with have the mitsubishi high pressure turbo. The later is better for modding over 250bhp. The z20 net is a great engine and has been modded to the extreme through the nordic tuning companies as it is also used in the saab 9-3 so tuning wise you want to be looking at Neo Bros who are a maptun agent. there are a couple of guys on here at the moment that are dealing with these (Caveman Nige and Ian-Highlander) and with great results.

If you have a look on the turbo it has the garret number on it.

Mine is an 05 reg and the waste gate fubard on mine.

I sent it off to Turbo Technics but I decided to have the full thing done, so uprated 360 thrust bearing, seals actuator etc etc. First class service and cost me £375 with two year warranty or 24k miles.

My car is mapped so had I have just dropped the mitsu turbo onto it I would have then had to have the car remaped again, as previous people have had issues with the car without doing so.

Given the time period I am looking to own the vehicle I didnt think it was worth the additional expense and you will get 235-240 bhp on the garret anyway. Even Neo brothers told me the Garret Turbo is a good unit as I was giving it a bit of a blast over the telephone to them when I was looking around.

You can get a second hand garret for around £150 with a 7 day warranty, or a new unit for around £300 - £400. I went the Turbo Technics route as it has all been strengthened and comes with 2 yr warranty for roughly the same price.

Without a doubt the guy you need to chat to is CAVEMAN NIGE - he knows more about this then anyone on here I would imagine.

    OK cheers for the info.

I'm not looking at tuning this really I just want ti back on the road, as I won't be holding on to the car for that want as looking at getting the diesel later in the year.

So i'm really just wanting to get it back on the road asap

Cheapest option will be second hand unit, or simple fix at a turbo company.

Mine does 30 round town and 41 on a run sat at around 70-80 mph so I dont think its too bad on the fuel for a big car with decent power output.

My wife has the Saab 93 sportwagon in 1.9 120 bhp derv form and that only averages 37 round town and maybe 50 on a long run so not much in it.
